Family Medicine Core Clerkship:
- Palliative Care Tutorial: In this case-based learning session, students will:
- Assist in determining, recording and implementing goals of care through effective communication with patients, families and other caregivers.
- Participate in the management and support of the dying patient and their family.
- Assess psychosocial and spiritual issues in end-of-life care including grief.
- Palliative Care Site Visit: All students are assigned half-day site visits with local palliative care preceptors. Students will:
- Observe an interprofessional approach to palliative care
- Develop an awareness of the social, cultural, and spiritual elements involved in the palliative care approach
- Develop an awareness of hospital, community, and family needs and resources for care planning in various settings.
