Palliative Care Approach in Specialties and Subspecialties

Palliative Care Approach in Family Medicine Training

The palliative approach curriculum is a horizontal curriculum, allowing trainees to continuously build upon their palliative approach knowledge and experience throughout their residency, particularly through their longitudinal Primary Care clinic placement. The DFM has partnered with Pallium Canada in order to deliver LEAP Core training (https://www.pallium.ca/course/leap-core/) as well as other valuable bedside and online resources. Dr. Gallagher teaches much of this content, alongside Palliative Care Physician Mentors that are assigned to each distributed site. Residents have the ability to supplement their palliative approach training through electives and selectives.

Palliative Care Approach in Royal College Specialty and Subspecialties

Launched in June 2021, this initiative will develop and facilitate palliative care education in Postgraduate Royal College Specialities and Subspecialities at McMaster in close collaboration with the Department of Family Medicine, the Division of Palliative Care, and various Royal College Specialties and Subspecialties residency programs. In coordination and collaboration with associates, we will identify opportunities and create practical, effective models to spread palliative care education (the palliative care approach) across various programs.
